Walker-H-A Wolves Capture Initial Victory In MN / Section 8A Hockey; Other Section Scores On Thursday, February 14, 2008

By: Timothy Oshie

Congratulations to the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley Wolves for the programs first Varsity victory in school history and Section 8A.

Valentine's Day was "sweet" to the Wolves as they earned the 5-0 victory over the Bagley-Fosston Flyers.

A personal congratulations to Head Coach, Ben Brovold, and his Assistant Coach, Chad Smith, for their dedication this past season to the kids of Walker-H-A and the Leech Lake Hockey Association and attaining this special win.

And, of course, to the Varsity hockey players and parents who've endured a difficult, yet rewarding first hockey season in Section 8A.

As Coach Brovold stated, "Congrats to the whole hockey association for making the hockey program a success."

Also, a special congratulations to Gretchen Gribbin, the High School Hockey Coordinator for Walker-H-A Wolves whom I'm sure has logged hundreds of hours this past season.

Walker-H-A built the program the old fashioned way and applied for entry into the Minnesota State High School League and earned a spot in Section 8A for 2007-08 season.

On October 9, 2006 the Walker-Hackensack-Akeley School Board entered into a partnership with the Leech Lake Area Amateur Hockey Association for high school hockey. This program will be funded 100% by the Leech Lake Area Amateur Hockey Association.

A memorable feat for the Wolves of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley!

Here are the scores for Section 8A last night:

Detroit Lakes 7, Red Lake Falls 6 (OT)
Greenway 7, Bemidji 2
Walker-H-A 5, Bagley/Fosston 0
